2 Acre Estate, Easterton

Ed is appointed as head gardener of large 2-acre garden in Easterton. We worked alongside the garden designer and the landscaper since the outset of the project. It is a garden of many different parts including large expanses of lawn, a wildflower meadow, a pond, water features and a number of flower beds.

We helped the client with the planting of the trees, shrubs and perennial plants. We also made a seating area from a fallen tree. The garden contains a many different plants as the soil quality throughout the garden varies considerably. As with most gardens there are different parts to it, some sunny all day and then other tricky areas of shade under existing tall trees. It is a windy exposed site which has to be taken into account when selecting plants that will thrive.

The pond has been a great addition to the garden it attracts frogs, toads and newts as well as dragonflies and pond skaters. In the spring it is amazing to watch the frogspawn change into tadpoles. It provides a drinking area for birds and provides a relaxing area for the clients. The wildlife in the pond are natural predators for a number of garden pests including aphids.

We have undertaken moss removal from the lawns and overseeded the bare patches, in some areas we have completely reseeded. There were damp shady areas and we have incorporated a special hardwearing seed mixture for these difficult spots.

We are now responsible for the regular upkeep of the garden, including lawn maintenance, patio cleaning, weeding, hedge trimming, planting and topping up the borders with organic matter to improve the soil quality. The newly planted hedge area is vast and contains native plants and which is fantastic for wildlife habitats. The hedge has thickened up and has benefitted from regular cutting.

Pickle Pea Garden Services have been with us since we embarked on our new garden project. It has been a great relief having the additional help they have provided. They are always helpful and do a thorough tidy up before they leave. Highly recommend their services for a new garden or ongoing maintenance.
