Depending on the type of hedge you have, hedge trimming is usually carried out annually during the winter months or early spring. If you have a formal hedge, it is recommended to have it maintenance at least twice a year. Some hedges require a maintenance trim during the summer months to prevent them growing out of control, however we have to be aware of any potential nesting birds.
We recommend regular weeding, as weeds can quickly become a problem if not tackled quickly. Weeding is usually required to be carried out regularly during the growing months to prevent them overgrowing your garden and your chosen plants. Spring is an important time to weed as this is when the weeds are still in their pre-growth season and helps prevent them growing and producing more seeds which in turn will produce more weeds. We can weed out annuals by hoeing between existing plants. Tougher perennial weeds such as dandelions do need to be dug out to remove all of the tap root. Weeding in the autumn is part of our autumn clear up routine and also helps prevent the annual weeds from setting seed for the following year.
